Photo Bio Reactor
A reactor that uses Light for bio reaction. A photo bioreactor defines as it’s a close loop device that uses a light source to make photo-trophic-micro-organisms. There were many different types of photo-bioreactors are available in market based on different shape & size as per users application. Several types of photo bioreactors are tubular bioreactors, Flat plate bioreactor, horizontal photo bioreactors, HDEP bags, coils or domes any many others types.
The advantages of closed loop photo-bio-reactor are providing higher cell densities of micro-organisms and thus reduce lower demand of water, reduce open system water losses, avoids contaminations which may occur in open raceway pond systems and any many more.

A very generic Photo-bioreactor will have transparent closed loop equipment with a photosynthesis growing lights. Raceway Pond Aerator
The Raceway pond – Can be summarised as a shallow pond made to cultivate algal biomass. There are different size of Open ponds & Close ponds cab be build. The ponds sizes are decided on basis of biomass production as end product. Based on culture systems used microalgae production yield is expressed as the amount of biomass per unit of surface area. Open race way pond can produce 4-11 grams of biomass per m2 surface area per day, so per year biomass generation will be 7.5-14.5 tons per acre. Some entrepreneurs have even reported biomass yield as 45-50 grams/ m2 per day, which will result in to 73-75 tons biomass/ m2 per year in open raceway ponds.
Though ponds capacity decided on dry biomass, still the conventional ponds capacity are listed below.
- Micro Ponds - 200-500 Litres
- Mini Ponds - 2000-5000 Litres
- Pilot Ponds- 20,000-50,000 Litres
- Turnkey Ponds- 2,00,000-5, 00,000 Litres
Raceway pond can be constructed in many ways. Conventional technic for raceway ponds are made from HDEP material for lab models & mini ponds, where ever pilot ponds & turnkey ponds are made with civil methodology. Some of the pilot ponds & turnkey ponds projects are made from HDEP material on ground with external metal support rings. Construction material for the ponds can be used as per costumer preferences
